I personally resisted the urge to move to an IT coding job in the late 1990`s despite it being a booming field. I stuck to my core competency of manufacturing sector aligned with marketing and global markets and built my career on this confluence.

Take advantage of these opportunities to expand your skill set and stay ahead of the curve. I still continuously upgrade my knowledge of digital tools regularly and try to implement in my work regularly.

Next, I would like to emphasize the importance of two important fields that will define the business scenarios in the next few years – Digital Transformation and De-carbonization / Energy Transition.
Key drivers for digital transformation are process efficiencies, better productivity, increased supply chain efficiencies and better customer connect. The digital transformation started with ERP in the late 90`s, supply chain digitalization to digital analytics to predictive analytics especially in operations and finally to E commerce for better customer connect. Tools like IOT, Blockchain, Machine Learning and presently to Artificial Intelligence have transformed the way business is done. Importantly, digital transformation has pervaded across all industries like the new age startups to core industries like metals and mining.
Secondly, sustainability with ESG focus is another business sector that is becoming a core of all major industries. Decarbonization, due to Paris Summit goals, is the buzz word that is the core of all business strategies. Businesses allied with electric vehicles, energy transition, alternate energies, etc will see huge investments and focus on the coming days.
